DaVinci™ IR FIlm™
This tool is a infra-red film emulation tool. It is also an extremely powerful tool for interactive black and white conversion. It is started from the 'Image' menu:
The user interface looks like this:

These controls require a little explanation.
Color
A filter's response color. That's the color that, after the conversion, is going to be a light shade in the final image. For instance, if the filters's color is set to red (Color 0). red hues will be bright shades in the final image.
Amount
It dictates how much colors other than the one specified by 'Color' parameter are suppressed.
Brightness
Changes the overall brightness of the image.
Glow size
Changes the size of the glow around the objects.
Glow amount
Changes the amount of glow
The typical IR conversion has Color of 0 and Amount of 0-30. For a black and white conversion, these parameters are image dependent and need to be determined by looking at the image. Set the Amount to 0 and move the color slider from -180 to 180. Then, set the Amount to 20 and move the color from -180 to 180 again. Repeat the process until you get the desired look. Glow size can be set to 0 to disable the Glow feature.
Here are some examples:
